    *** Disclaimer ***

Use BinSR at your own risk. There are many factors which contribute to make a search and replace successful. Extensive testing should be performed in YOUR environment to see how BinSR will work for you. Data and directories should be backed up prior to running BinSR. FoxWare Design will not be held liable for damages that result from not following these simple precautions.

    Using BinSr

    binsr_image.gif (13173 bytes)

In this example, an administrator has a compiled FoxPro application that needs to be moved to a different drive on new server. Since the admin doesn't have the FoxPro source code, she is doing a search & replace on all files in the J:\USER\PUBLIC directory to allow the FoxPro application to work in its new home on another server.

1 - Find text: Enter text string that BinSR should search for. BinSR is case-insensitive, which means that it will find and treat CAT the same as Cat.

2 - Replace with text: This is the string that will replace the string specified in 1. Important! When replacing strings in binary or compiled files, the Find text and the Replace text MUST be of the same length, or file corruption will result. BinSR can only search and replace strings of the SAME length in these binary files!

3 - Source path: BinSR will process all files specified in the Source path. Sub-directories will also be processed by default.

4 - Select Source Path This button will allow you to browse for the source path.

5 - Select Target Path This button allows you to browse for destination or target directory. This is where all the updated files will be stored. It is not recommended for this to be a network drive or the same as the source path.

6 - Target path: This is the output path for BinSR, all files that are updated by BinSR will be copied here.

7 - Exclude files... : Files which BinSR should not process. It is not recommended that you run BinSR against compressed files, files with special encryption or "signed" files.

8 - Include files... : Files to be included in the Search & Replace operation. If you want to only process lotus spreadsheet files, you would use *.wk*.

9 - Execute Starts the Search & Replace operation.

Program Notes

1. Virus scanning software like McAfee VirusScan is sometimes know to conflict with BinSR. Disable these programs before running BinSR.

2. Installing BinSR - BinSR can be run from anywhere. Create a new directory called BinSR and unzip the downloaded zip file into that directory, or you can unzip BinSR to an existing utility directory you already have setup.

3. The first time BinSR is run, it will extract necessary program .dll's, so you must have read and write directory permissions.

Registering BinSR

Registering BinSR gives you full automation. After registration, you will be able to perform search & replace operations on entire directory structures. The shareware version only allows search & replace operations on one file at a time.

BinSR can be purchased through RegSoft.com, our software registration service. Once you have registered through Regsoft, you will be directed to a web page where you can download the full version of BinSR.

If you have any problems or questions about this process, please send an email to sales@foxwaredesign.com . We will assist you in any way that we can.

Thanks again for selecting BinSR!
